About Us
After completing a Bachelor of Commerce at Saint Mary's University here in Halifax, Terry married Elaine (Chernin) Keyes and keeping with the family's success Terry established Keyes Insurance Brokerage Ltd. in 1980. His objective was to provide Nova Scotians with friendly, knowledgeable service and quality products. With his rating manuals in hand Terry began the long process of building his agency one customer at a time. As the years passed, not only did the business grow but also the Keyes family with the addition of sons Justin and Shaun. Terry was quick to incorporate his sons into the business at a young age, as he knew it was never too early to learn the fundamentals of customer service. Both sons continued to work with Terry while they pursued their university education. After completing his MBA in finance at Saint Mary's University, Justin left the business to pursue a career in finance, and currently holds the title of Vice President with BMO in Hong Kong. Enjoying a successful career in Toronto, Justin attributes much of his success to the skills he learned while working with his father. In 2005 Terry was also pleased to welcome back son Shaun to the business with the title of Vice President and Head of Commercial accounts. Shaun's knowledge of the insurance industry has been bred into him, as he is now the 4th generation of Keyes to be involved in the business. The two-person operation has expanded to a staff of nine. Between 1980 and 2002 Keyes Insurance was situated in the Halifax Shopping Center on Mumford Road. Continued growth coupled with the need for larger facilities resulted in the move to Keyes' current location on Lacewood Drive. While the business has expanded substantially, the focus on our customers has remained the same.
